Brig.Gen.Brett T.Williams, 18W/CC, held Kadena Air Force Ball for celebrating
61st anniversary of United States Air Force at Kadena NCO's club on 13(Sat.)
September. Cocktail started at 6:00 p.m.. As distinguished guests, LTG.Richard
C. Zilmer (USMC in Okinawa), local governors were invited. And USAF airmen
and civilian employee with spouse, totally 700 peoples participated in
this event. Mr.Taguchi, JAAGA member of Okinawa branch, attended to it
in behalf of JAAGA president. Maj.Gen.Watanabe (SWACD/CV) and Maj.Gen.Miyagawa
(83AW/CC) attended from JASDF. All participants took seat at 7 O'clock,
then celebration dinner was started. Honor guards brought national flags
of United States and Japan into ball room, a member of PACAF band sang
national anthems of both countries without accompaniment. All members carried
out silent prayer to soldiers who fell down in battle field and could not
participate in today's event. And cake-cutting ceremony was performed. We
enjoyed dinner and talking. Former Staff Sergeant Christopher M.Sladon
who had served in Iraq War three times and had unfortunately lost one arm
and both eyes in the third service, was present at this ball as guest speaker
accompanying with his wife. He talked about his battle experience, situation
when he got injured, and their life after that. His speech impressed all
participants very much. Just after his speech, all participants stood up,
sent him generous applauses. Brig.Gen.Williams had closing speech, then
all airmen sung Air Force Song, and this ceremony was closed. (Reported
