Colonel O'Shaughnessy, Misawa AB/CC and 35FW/CC, had retirement ceremony
for Colonel Joel E.Malone, 35FW/CV, on 4 August. At party which was held
the night before, Mr.and Mrs.Taneichi, Mayor of Misawa City, and many peoples
got together to farewell Colonel and his wife. Col.Malone has experienced
duties two times at Misawa Air Base, first time he was assigned to 13rd
Squadron from 1998 to 2002, second time as vice commander from 2006 to
today. Totally he spent 6.5 yeas here. He often said "I had to study
Japanese language more". Retirement ceremony was given at Officers Club. A None-Commissioned Officer
did as master of ceremony and order of ceremony is as follow. Arrival of Official Party, Posting of Colors, National Anthems, Invocation,
Remarks by Colonel O'Shaughnessy, Presentation of the Decoration, Reading
of the Retirement Order, Presentation of the Retirement Certificate, Presentation
of the Certificate of Appreciation, Presentation to Mrs. Malone, Presentation
of the Flag, Remarks by Colonel Malone, Air Force Song. In this ceremony,
Mr.Ozawa (head of JAAGA Misawa Branch) presented Col.Malone a memento as
memory of duties in Japan. The ceremony lasted for over one hour in very
solemn atmosphere. I could hear some humor in this ceremony, this caused
of his pleasant personality, I think. And I felt very impressed of introducing
the appreciation letters from former U.S.Presidents, Bush, Carter and Clinton. (Reported
by Ozawa, head of Misawa Branch)
